10 Things You Didn't Know About Macho Man Randy Savage
7. Just Before He Joined The WWE, Savage Feuded With Jerry Lawler
Randy Savage's younger brother Lanny Poffo was known best as The Genius in the WWE for the late 80's and early 90's, but he got his start in the 70's as well. As a matter of fact, Lanny debuted in the same year, 1973. Their father Angelo felt that they were not getting the push that they should have an decided to form his own wrestling promotion, International Championship Wrestling mainly wrestling in the midwest territories. Unfortunately it didn't last long, so Randy and Lanny decided to head to Memphis. As many people know, Jerry "The King" Lawler is synonymous with Memphis and professional wrestling. Randy and Lanny joined Lawler's Continental Wrestling Association where they were a part of some high profile feuds. Savage and Lawler were allies at one point as they feuded with Jimmy Hart's First Family stable which consisted of many wrestlers during it's inception in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Savage would end up turning heel on Lawler and had one last feud against him where he lost a "loser leaves town" match. Less than a month later, Savage would make his WWE debut.
