10 Things Learned From Eric Bischoff's 1994 Timeline Of WCW
10. Regrets Putting Ed Leslie In Starrcade Main Event
Starrcade was the biggest show on the WCW calendar. In many ways, the year-ending spectacular was WCW's own WrestleMania, and the event actually launched years before 'Mania. Fans had been conditioned to expect awesome main events at Starrcade, which only made it all the more confusing when Ed Leslie was chosen to oppose Hulk Hogan in 1994. As Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake, Leslie had been a popular name in the WWF of the late-80's and early-90's. However, the man was far from a genuine draw on Pay-Per-View, and that proved to be the case at Starrcade '94. Retitled 'The Butcher' for the purpose of his feud against Hulk, Leslie was a flop in the main event role. Fans just didn't take him seriously as a challenger for Hogan's WCW World Title. Agreeing to book Ed Leslie in the main event of Starrcade is something Eric Bischoff majorly regrets. Feeling his hands were tied to to Hulk's real-life friendship with Ed, Bischoff acquiesced and the match took place in the headline slot. Considered by many to be one of the worst Starrcade main events of all time, The Butcher vs. Hulk Hogan was not a proud moment for Bischoff.
