10 Things That Made Us Embarrassed To Be Wrestling Fans In 2016

2. The Old Day

WWE buried a number of superstars in 2016, but few downfalls were more spectacular than Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows’. The former Bullet Club men debuted with a bang, but fell-off after being split from AJ Styles in the 2016 Draft, and by the time they entered the tag division on their own, Gallows & Anderson had become a hideous comedy act.

Their New Day feud saw them go from ruthless mercenaries to wacky schoolyard comedians in the space of just a couple of weeks. After squashing Big E’s manhood on the ringpost, Gallows & Anderson donned labcoats, started carrying the powerhouse’s testicles around in a jar, and their ball-themed promos became insufferable.

Their in-ring momentum suffered, too. Gallows & Anderson lost match after match to The New Day, and after flubbing multiple title opportunities, things went from bad to worse.

The Old Day was 2016’s worst segment, bar none. Going from doctors to “retirement specialists,” Gallows & Anderson’s comedy shtick continued when they trotted out a trio of elderly New Day impersonators that was supposed to make us hate them, but only made us cringe. This was some of the most excruciatingly painful television you’ll ever see, wrestling or otherwise, and yet another reason to never take Gallows & Anderson seriously again.

The good doctors have since sharpened up their act and dropped the shenanigans, but the damage is already done. For most of 2016, Gallows & Anderson were a complete embarrassment.
