10 Things We Learned From A Genuine 1998 WCW Nitro Script
9. Chucky Took Priority
One week after this 5 October 1998 episode, Chucky from 'Child's Play' would invade Nitro and get all sorts of fired up on Rick Steiner. It was as weird as it sounds, but the weirdness of that movie-shilling cameo was preceded by events detailed in this very script.
The opening Halloween Havoc hype vid makes sure to note that producers must include Chuck. "Needs Chuckie laugh track in the middle of this spot", it says. Also, yes, they spelled the doll's name wrong. Why are you surprised? This was WCW, after all. That's not where Chucky's night ended.
A few segments later, cameras are instructed to cut to the announce position so Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Larry Zbyz...Zabiz...Zbyszko can run through the night's format. The script makes it crystal clear that the trio should reference Chucky's laugher before talking about major stars like Bret Hart, Hollywood Hogan and Sting.
Seriously, that's how it's laid out: "Announcers should talk about Chuckie laugh track...Bret Hart/Sting/Hogan situation". Basically, a crossover 'celebrity' appearance to promote 'Bride Of Chucky' was deemed more important than anything else.
