The common narrative is that Triple H and Stephanie started seeing one another behind Chyna's back in 1999-2000, and their relationship developed from there. That's not how Bruce remembers it. To him, the on-screen love life of Hunter and Steph was kept completely separate from their personal lives, at least for a good year or so.

To back this up, Prichard told how he remembered meeting Stephanie's then-boyfriend during creative meetings and social occasions at Vince's house. Said lover was a baseball player, one Bruce described as a quiet, unassuming guy, and he was on the scene until approximately 2001.

Read that again. That's almost two years after Triple H and Stephanie were shunted together as an on-air couple in WWE.

Eventually, all talk of the baseball boy stopped around WrestleMania X-Seven time, and that's when Bruce (and others) started to see there was something going on between Stephanie and Hunter. Little hints started to drop that gave the game away.
