9. The Hidden Impact Of Paul Heyman

Maybe Page wouldn't have made his dream a reality had Paul Heyman stayed put in the AWA.

Heyman left the company, so they were on the hunt for a new mouthpiece anyway. DDP had created his new persona for sh*ts and giggles, and decided to send in an audition tape to the AWA on a whim. He didn't think anybody would really pay attention, but they called him up and asked if he wanted a tryout.

During that chat, Page admitted that he didn't work anywhere and...had never worked anywhere. Somehow, the promotion were still interested and wanted to draft the guy in to see if he could fill the departing Paul E. Dangerously's boots.

Page still believes that his honesty over the phone (he told AWA brass that wrestling was "like a secret society", and he didn't really know how to "get in") endeared him to the office. They admired his balls, and wanted to give him a shot.
