That's when John surprised Stephanie by personally thanking her for inspiring his ongoing work as a villain. McMahon was ever so slightly taken aback by that praise, but Cena said: "You never know how you affect people". He enjoyed watching Steph do her thing as an on-screen baddie, and he's lifted a few nuances for his own late-career heel work.

An editor at ESPN deserves a pat on the back for finding back to back clips of Steph and Cena effectively saying the same thing too. They interspersed footage of McMahon slapping Nikki Bella and calling her "pathetic" with another vid of Cena calling the modern WWE audience "pathetic". That was slick editing, and it worked a treat when hammering home John's point.

Cena said he'd he’d kinda forgotten how to be a heel after decades of playing the superhero to kids. So, he decided to "outright steal" from Stephanie's past by studying her best moments/promos and how she manipulated the crowd. There's no denying that McMahon went through a period of being criminally underrated by some fans just because of her surname and the way her Authority group alongside Triple H dominated programming.

JC wanted to put his friend over as a top tier villain. To her credit, McMahon didn't bask in the compliments for too long before turning the spotlight back onto Cena's career. That's what she was there to talk about, after all. This is when one might encourage The Rock to check out Stephanie's Places.
