10 Things We Learned From Kenny Omega On Wrestling Observer Radio
3. The Cornette Scenario
NWA Powerrr commentator Jim Cornette recently found himself forcibly falling on his sword, after an episode aired in which he made an outdated, racially insensitive remark in reference to Trevor Murdoch. It's no secret that Cornette and Omega don't see eye to eye - with much of the vitriol coming from the direction of the veteran manager - and it must have been very tempting for Kenny to lay the boot in following this controversy.
Instead, Omega was graceful about the subject. He said it was a sad situation and that he never wishes ill upon anybody, but was quite firm that Cornette's comments - probably uttered unthinkingly - were absolutely unacceptable.
That said, Omega wasn't entirely without barb: he dismissed Cornette's "toxic" response as "carnie", noting that although he's a great mind for the business at his best, we'd unfortunately seen him at his worst.
That sort of desperate, negative attention-seeking in a bid to remain relevant is simply not what Omega loves about wrestling. He un-begrudgingly said it's a shame someone with talent is now out of a job, but that he simply cannot support the way Cornette conducts himself.
