It's hard to pin the exact timeframe of this one down.

During the interview, Triple H told a story about getting on the wrong side of Vince McMahon when they were sharing mic time in-ring. This either happened when he was in DX or shortly thereafter, but it's worth including because of how interesting the tale is. Besides, any story about Vince getting intense is always fun.

Behind the scenes (before they went out in front of the crowd), Trips had asked Vince how far he was allowed to go when tearing through the boss and acting like a rebel. McMahon gave him carte blanche to "go where he thought he should". Afterwards, when they returned backstage from the segment, Triple H asked Vince if the promo was fine.

McMahon glared at the wrestler with angry eyes, muttered, "Yeah, that was fine" with a dullness to his voice and then walked away. Triple H knew he had said something to irk his boss, but he wasn't quite sure what it was.
