Jeff's last feud with CM Punk before leaving WWE in 2009 was memorable for Punk's comments about Hardy's prior problems with drugs and alcohol. As important as they were to the story being told by the "Straight Edge Saviour", they were embarrassing to Jeff.

That embarrassment would get worse for Hardy once he left the company.

In 2010, a visibly inebriated Jeff was filmed calling Punk a "nerd" at a truck stop. After questioning what the straight edge lifestyle even is, he went on to stick two middle fingers up at his old foe, claim he made Punk who he is, ramble on about the respect he'd earned from legends like The Undertaker and then say Punk didn't have the same respect.

Jeff said on WWE 24 that watching the footage back is cringeworthy, and it reminds him of how far he's come since. Adding to the embarrassment, Matt's comments on Punk's relationship with Amy "Lita" Dumas prove this was a very bad time for both siblings.
