“In my view, Bret was being extremely selfish and not giving back to the company.”

It may have been 22 years ago now, but Shane McMahon didn’t pull any punches or hold his tongue when it came to his thoughts on the Montreal Screwjob.

Shane defended his father by saying how Vince was looking to defend the then-WWF brand and its World Championship, although fans of The Excellence of Execution will cite how Bret had creative control over the Bret Hart character during his final days with the company.

Interestingly, Shane O’Mac touched on how he had to watch his dad get punched out by Bret in the immediate aftermath of that Survivor Series ’97 match.

Vince told Shane beforehand how he was going to let Hart have one free punch, and then the crazy old bastard walked straight into The Hitman’s changing area and did indeed offer himself up to be punched square in the face – an offer, of course, that Bret Hart would take his soon-to-be ex-boss up on.
