For very different reasons, Shawn Michaels was another star who many seriously thought would never throw on the old chaps again and wrestle in front of a capacity crowd.

His WWE 'retirement' felt like the exception to the old rule.

Michaels seemed content to let the next generation forge their own legacies. That being said, he was more than happy to show up every now and again to help further an angle or put over another performer on the mic.

Then, Saudi eventually came calling in 2018 and Michaels was forced to choose between a boat load of money or staying true to his word.

Freshly minted with controversial dollar, 'HBK' dusted off his cowboy hat and D-Generation X glow sticks for a one-time return against The Undertaker and Kane at Crown Jewel.

This one definitely felt incredibly bittersweet. We finally had our legendary, now bald 'Showstopper' back in a WWE ring, it was just unfortunately on a Saudi stage in a match which wasn't worth remembering.

Still, it happened at a time when we thought we'd truly seen the last of 'Mr. WrestleMania' in the squared circle and it still feels like a bizarre dream/nightmare come to life looking back on it today.
