10 Things Wrestling Fans Fully Expected To Happen In 2020 (That Still Haven't)

8. Ronda Returns

Ronda Rousey's first run in WWE was objectively a success. From a critically-acclaimed debut match at WrestleMania all the way to the main event just a year later, 'Rowdy' Ronda was the main driving force behind a true revolution in women's wrestling, where the female stars of WWE ascended to the very peak of the industry. Without Rousey's crossover appeal and mainstream popularity, not to mention her incredible ability and pro wrestling aptitude, that might not have happened.

Rousey left WWE following that defeat at WrestleMania 35, her only loss during that famous run. While nobody expected that hiatus to be brief, there was a general assumption that the former RAW Women's Champion would be back at some point in 2020, maybe even to take on Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36. Not only did that match not happen, but Rousey is yet to return to the wacky world of WWE.

In truth, her return is unlikely to happen until crowds are back. Rousey is arguably the biggest name available to the company and her appearances should be kept to a minimum for maximum effect, and a hastily thrown together match in the ThunderDome ain't that. Many thought Rousey would be back in 2020, but the calamitous events of the year made that practically impossible.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
