10 Things Wrestling Fans Fully Expected To Happen In 2020 (That Still Haven't)

7. Blood & Guts

Blood & Guts
AEW/Fite TV

Remember this? AEW Blood and Guts was scheduled for March 25, a television special built around the eponymous match, a battle that was going to be AEW's take on War Games. The Elite (Cody, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, Matt Jackson and a debuting Matt Hardy) on one side, The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz) on the other. The build to the match was excellent, and fans were confident that AEW was going to do a better job of staying true to the legacy of War Games than NXT's recent efforts.

Coronavirus got in the way though, as is its wont, and the match was postponed indefinitely. The postponement led to AEW going forward instead with the Stadium Stampede match, a widely-celebrated romp that gave fans arguably the spot of the year, as Sammy Guevara helicoptered through the air post-golf cart collision. The Elite won, for the record.

Stadium Stampede was a success, but Blood and Guts remains in AEW's pocket for the time being. This is one that the promotion will almost certainly hold off until crowds return.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
