10 Things WWE Are Seriously Neglecting In 2017
1. Unscripted Mic Skills
The ability to talk is an important attribute for any would-be star in the wrestling business and can be the difference between a mid-card act and a main event mainstay.
Nevertheless, the script-heavy world of WWE today has seen performers become actors more than sports entertainers. Reciting lines verbatim can often come across as contrived and, for the talent tasked with relaying this verbiage, it can actually hurt their chances of getting over.
For proof, look no further than the awful "sufferin' succotash" line from Roman Reigns' in January 2015. If there was ever a phrase unfit for a 32 year old, Samoan badass, it was that. The line was clearly the work of the writers - and likely Vince McMahon himself - and saw him come across as a corporate puppet.
The reliance on scripted promos has left today's talent with little leeway to find themselves in their characters. The likes of Austin, Rock and even Triple H himself, all connected with the audience by allowing their personalities to resonate through their characters.
Ric Flair is the ultimate example, while The Miz proved the old formula still hasn't faltered with his memorable promo on Talking Smack. Bullet points and creative license would go a long way towards helping talents get over and stay over.
