10 Things WWE Could Learn From Lucha Underground

4. Treat Women As Equals

With The Divas Division officially dead, paving the way for the Women’s Division, WWE has come a bit closer to catching up with the times in how they portray women. However, they still have a long ways to go. They should be drawing inspiration from Lucha Underground on how to make things even better.

In Lucha, the women are free to battle the men. They aren’t booked as pushovers either. Ivelisee faced Mil Muertes in the season two opener, and took it to him. She was also a credible Trios champion along with Son of Havoc and Angelico. We’ve seen Sexy Star lock up with half the men on the roster, and Kobra Moon, Mariposa and Taya aren’t afraid to mix it up either.

Chris DeJoseph, one of the executive producers on the show, argues that in other forms of entertainment we get to see women kick ass and fight men all the time. We’ve seen it in Kill Bill, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Marvel's Black Widow. The culture can accept the two sexes battling it out if they’re portrayed as equals.

WWE wouldn’t have to book the men and women to fight each other, but they could follow the lead of Lucha Underround by making both genders capable of being badasses.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
