10 Things WWE Could Learn From Lucha Underground
3. Give Matches A Sense Of Urgency
So many WWE matches kill any sort of believability, because the wrestlers involved look like they’re going through the motions. Walk over to your opponent, kick him a couple times, play to the crowd, and slap on a chinlock. If you were fighting someone for real, would it look anything like that?
Of course not everything in wrestling needs to resemble reality, but we should at least believe that the people fighting want to actually win.
Maybe it’s just a personal choice, but I’ll take shorter matches with people looking like they’re giving it their all the entire time, rather than watch something be dragged out to fill 15 minutes. This in part is due to time constraints for LU, but it’s also part of the Lucha Libre style, which features faster paced action.
They do take more reckless bumps than what you’ll find in WWE, but it’s far easier to believe the matches matter more to the LU talent, because of their greater sense of urgency.
