Despite working all of these dark matches, Roode still didn't find himself on the receiving end of a contract from WWE. He would do everything that was asked of him, but still nothing came forward.

It was during this time that fellow Canadian Scott D'Amore informed him that TNA were interested in him, and that a contract was there for him to sign.

As the story goes, Roode went to do one last taping for the WWE, one where he would lose to Matt Hardy on Velocity. After the match, Roode told Edge and Chris Jericho of the offer from TNA. The two told him to run and take the offer, because you never know what will come around.

Roode explained this to John Laurinaitis, who also advised him to take it. Johnny Ace told him that there wasn't anything ready for him on the main roster, and he was too good for developmental. Roode was told to go and get over somewhere else.

In Roode's words, he did just that, except he didn't leave.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
