Velasquez's SmackDown debut melted social media like a forgotten chocolate bar in a coat pocket, but it's far from the first time he's set foot in the squared-circle before the cameras.

In March of this year, the MMA supremo signed on the dotted line with one of Mexico's big two, AAA, with a view to working matches. He made his pro debut at August's Triplemania - traditionally the company's biggest show - as part of a star-studded trios bout alongside Cody and Psycho Clown, opposite Texano Jr., Taurus and Impact import Killer Kross.

Unlike his WWE bow, where his face was necessarily front and centre for the TV audience, Velasquez competed the Arena Mexico show under a luchador mask. He showed an immediate knack for his new discipline, earning a glowing review from the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer. His WWE future seems very promising indeed - though they probably won't let him wrestle the lucha style he attempted in Mexico City.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
