10 Things WWE Got Horribly Wrong In 2016

6. The Royal Rumble

The desperation to get the hand-picked Roman Reigns over as a heroic babyface fighting against the odds reached its peak at the 2016 Royal Rumble, where Reigns defended his WWE World Championship in the eponymous match itself. It was hyped as ‘One Versus All’, and if you weren’t aware that the odds were against Reigns WWE made sure by entering him at number one.

It was more proof that WWE is somewhat deaf when it comes to Reigns and the audience. The match was full of questionable decisions and eye-rolling moves, as Reigns was taken out (but not eliminated) by the bumbling fools called The League of Nations. He would return to the joy of nobody, but was unable to win the match.

That honour went to Triple H, demeaning the entire roster in the process. The story was that The Authority didn’t want Reigns as champion despite constantly putting him in the position to become so, and this smacked of ‘if you need something done, do it yourself’. Triple H couldn’t rely on any of the active roster, so he had to come and vanquish The Man with his own hand.

There were positives: AJ Styles finally arrived in WWE, and Dean Ambrose gave a performance that hinted at bigger things for him further down the line. Despite these plusses the 2016 Rumble will be remembered for negative reasons. 2017 must be better.
