10 Things WWE Got Horribly Wrong In 2016

3. The Cruiserweight Division

The Cruiserweight Classic was one of the bright lights of WWE programming in 2016, a 32-man tournament that gave us great matches and new stars to love. You can question TJ Perkins winning the tournament, but the series wasn’t anything but a great success.

WWE followed this up by bringing back the cruiserweight division, and it was remarkable only in how quickly the goodwill garnered from the CWC was wasted. The juniors found themselves on Raw, pigeon-holed from the beginning in front of crowds that didn’t know them and weren’t given any reason to care.

The division was headlined by a feud that not many were interested in, and whilst 205 Live is undoubtedly a positive move for wrestling fans it doesn’t augur well for the future of the division on Raw. The remedies were simple for all to see, but for reasons unknown WWE continues to keep name-stars (Hi Neville) away from the division.

In 2016 WWE proved that it has no idea how to book mainstream cruiserweight wrestling.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
