10 Things WWE Got Wrong At No Mercy 2017
7. Pre-Match Injuries
You can see the thinking behind the beginning of the match. Bray Wyatt attacked Finn Bálor before the bell, hitting the Irishman with an ura nage on the announce table. Bálor held his ribs and was being helped to the back by four referees before Wyatt called him a coward - bringing Bálor back to the match. Finn Bálor was to show the world how much of a ‘man’ he really is.
A wrestling crowd 30 years ago would have eaten this up, but times have changed. In a world where wrestlers kick out of finishing move after finishing move, where men and women take ungodly amounts of punishment, why oh why would a single ura nage put a match in doubt?
The pre-match injury story was misguided, to say the least. Whilst it gave the two a story to tell throughout the match, it was another example of lazy and uninspired creative. Bray Wyatt’s character is as stale as anything in the company, and the 'Eater of Worlds' desperately needs a new direction.
