10 Things WWE Regrets About Extreme Rules

2. The Ambrose Asylum Match

Chris Jericho is hands-down one of the greatest performers that the wrestling business has ever seen. Dean Ambrose is one of the most popular stars of the current generation and is one of the hottest acts in the business right now. But Extreme Rules 2016? Yeesh, that was a tough watch as these two faced off in the first ever Ambrose Asylum Match.

For those fortunate enough to have either a) never seen this match, or b) forgotten all about it, the basic crux of the bout saw Jericho and Ambrose face off in a cage match. An all-time great going up against a modern favourite in the confines of an unforgiving steel cage? That sounds great. Sadly, WWE decided to have weapons suspended from above the ring (not in a good way), have Mitch the Plant (RIP) as a heavy plot point, and have Ambrose turn the goofy-o-meter up to 11.

Both of the competitors have spoken out about how their Extreme Rules 2016 match was a disappointment, and we fans can completely agree with Jericho and Ambrose. Considering the people involved, this should have been a classic. Instead, it’s an Extreme Rules memory that WWE has to look back at with embarrassment.
