10 Things WWE Regrets About SummerSlam

3. The Event Was Once Pre-Taped (SummerSlam 1992)

WWE has long championed its live action - be that live PPVs, live TV shows, or even non-televised house shows - yet back in 1992, the company did the unthinkable and aired a pre-taped PPV.

That PPV was SummerSlam '92.

Emanating from London, England's Wembley Stadium, the event actually took place on Saturday, August 29th, but the PPV didn't air until a whole two days later on Monday, August 31st.

Still, during the broadcast it's said how the action is "live" as Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan do their best to amp up the excitement from the SummerSlam commentary booth. Only that "live" actually meant "taped two days ago, pal".

To be fair to WWE, this is something that they could obviously get away with back in 1992 - the internet was yet to become a thing and wrestling fans had no major way of seeking out spoilers - but doing a pre-taped PPV in 2019 would be impossible due to the nature of today's wrestling landscape.

Either way, WWE will never publicly talk up how they once pre-recorded one of the company's big four PPVs. And one other regret of all of this is that the spectacle of SummerSlam '92 has led to 27 years of fans clamouring for more UK-held live PPVs that would give WWE those aforementioned spoiler headaches.
