10 Things WWE Should Borrow From Other Sports

9. Meaningful Rematch Clauses

As you've probably noticed, WWE has already borrowed the concept of a rematch clause from the world of boxing. It's invoked every year right around this time when the losing party at WrestleMania decides they want a re-run at Backlash.

The problem, however, is that it seldom feels like there's any chance the previous holder will reclaim their title in round two. It's just too early for them to switch the belt again, especially if they stage it at the very next pay-per-view.

In boxing, by contrast, the loser will often bide their time before activating the clause (hence someone like Anthony Joshua had a potential Wladimir Klitschko rematch hanging over his head for so long). In other words, they don't simply give us the same fight a month later.

Pro-wrestling moves at a much faster pace than any legitimate combat sports, granted, but it wouldn't hurt for a wrestler to hold back on their rematch a little while. Apart from anything else, it'd stop feuds from over-staying their welcome.
