10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Great Khali

4. That Jinder Mahal Storyline

Khali's career was really going nowhere in 2011, so WWE tried to revive it by calling up Jinder Mahal to take part in a story with him. While Khali was a lovable babyface at the time, Mahal was an aggressive heel that was there to leave a mark. As the story progressed, it was announced that Mahal was married to the sister of Khali & Ranjin Singh. That led to the storyline where Ranjin made it clear that if Khali didn't obey Mahal, then Mahal would divorce Khali's sister and put his family back into poverty. It's such a weird world that WWE writers have created for their wrestlers. Even though these wrestlers have jobs, they can be poor just like that. The story started in around May 2011 and it was done by September 2011 with absolutely no payoff. Khali ended up winning a match on Smackdown. That was it. We have no idea if the Mahal character divorced the sister, nor did we care to know. It was awful storytelling. It was at that point when WWE probably realized nobody was ever going to become invested in a Khali storyline because there was never going to be a payoff that we would like enough. He basically worked as a comedy guy for the rest of his time in WWE.
