10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About "Macho Man" Randy Savage

10. He Won King Of The Ring In 1987

The first ever King of the Ring PPV event took place in 1993. However, WWE first did a King of the Ring tournament in 1985, which was won by Don Muraco. Harley Race won the second tournament in 1986. Who won the third tournament on September 4, 1987? Randy Savage. At the time of his tournament win, Savage was moving up the ranks after dropping the Intercontinental Title to Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania 3. It was obvious that WWE had high hopes for him because the next year he won the WWE Title for the first time. How come WWE didn't really acknowledge the King of the Ring win in 1987? It's probably because they didn't televise those kinds of things. Finding a video of it is very difficult even today where most things end up getting uploaded on the internet at some point. Most fans know that Savage ended up donning the "King" crown during his heel run from 1989 to 1991, but that wasn't from the same tournament. His tournament win in 1987 was largely ignored by WWE.
