10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Rob Van Dam

1. He Was Arrested When He Was WWE Champion And Lost Title Soon After

There was shocking news on July 2, 2006 when Rob Van Dam and his traveling partner Sabu were arrested in Ohio for speeding while RVD was the WWE & ECW Champion. The officer smelled pot on both men, then did a search of their vehicle which led to him finding 18 grams of marijuana and five Vicodin on RVD. Sabu was busted for possession of drug paraphernalia and nine tablets of Testolactone. They were both arrested and posted bond to grant their release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zgxy493QArw It's no secret that RVD has always been a heavy marijuana user. He's also been an advocate of the drug, which is still illegal in most countries and US states in 2014. Getting arrested for marijuana possession was bad news. RVD won the WWE Title from John Cena in a very memorable match at the ECW One Night Stand event on June 11, 2006. He was also handed the ECW Title by Paul Heyman as the face of WWE's new ECW brand. At the July 3, 2006 edition of Raw they booked RVD in a WWE Title match against Edge and John Cena. At the end of match, Cena hit the FU (now known as the Attitude Adjustment) and Edge nailed Cena in the head with the WWE Title. Edge covered RVD to become the WWE Champion again. The next night on the July 4th edition of ECW it looked like RVD was going to retain the ECW Title against Big Show, but then Paul Heyman turned on him. Big Show ended up hitting him in the head with a chairshot and a Chokeslam to win the ECW Title. Later on WWE.com, Heyman suspended RVD for 30 days even though they really didn't give a reason. It was a bad week for RVD. He got arrested lost both titles he held and he was suspended for 30 days by WWE. Normally that would be a big deal for a lot people, but with RVD it was not a big deal. He talked about the arrest in a 2012 interview: "There is no way in denying that that getting pulled over in Ohio definitely knocked me off from the track that I was on. At the same time, I don€™t mind going down in history for that or drawing attention to a cause that I believe is worthy." RVD continues to be a strong supporter for marijuana use. He's also a guy that probably could have been a multi-time WWE Champion if they trusted him to be more responsible than he was in his career. Like with most RVD things, though, it didn't seem to bother him too much.
