10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About 2020

8. Braun Strowman’s Universal Title Run

WWE's Universal Title was in the toilet pre-Roman Reigns comeback.

Bray Wyatt's 'Fiend' had been crushed by a returning Bill Goldberg, then the ageing WCW icon dropped the title to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36. That, for the record, wasn't the original plan. WWE wanted Roman in Braun's slot, but Reigns rightly put the health of his family and himself first mid-pandemic.

So, Strowman benefitted, and his run sucked. A mini-feud against The Miz and John Morrison was arguably the worst of 2020, and his once-promising rivalry with old leader Wyatt degenerated into cinematic farce at Extreme Rules. Ignore the pay-per-view's subheading, because the only 'Horror Show' here was Braun as champ.

Strowman is effective as a wrecking ball heel, but he's awful as a champion babyface. This was evidence of that. On the plus side, Roman's return seemed even more kick ass because he was replacing a total duffer in the SmackDown hot seat.
