10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Dean Ambrose

5. An Unfortunately-Timed Heel Turn

Using real emotion as a tool is something wrestling companies have done for an age. It's often considered fair game if the afflicted party agrees to turn it into a work, and we're guessing Roman Reigns was totally cool with WWE's decision to turn Dean Ambrose heel on the 22 October 2018 episode of Raw.

That was the same night Roman announced he was leaving WWE for a while to fight leukaemia.

Here's the thing: if Reigns was cool with it and WWE were determined to see Dean's heel run through, then yes, by all means. However, Ambrose was only a villain for a few brief months before once against reforming The Shield when Roman returned from his battle with cancer. That rendered his big heel turn on Seth Rollins pointless.

Why stir up a hornet's nest of fan unhappiness online by booking the turn if you're not going to make it worthwhile? That was just one of the complaints some on social media had with the booking, and they weren't wrong for suggesting that short-term planning at such a sensitive moment was crass.
