10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Melina

2. A Wrestler's Court Summons Designed To Make Her Cry

Wrestler's Court sounds dumb as all f*ck. Pettiness on steroids. A bullying culture at its most brainwashed. Another aspect of the professional wrestling world that should be resigned to the past.

It may be dumb but it is also very real, and it is no great surprise to read that Melina found herself in front of this most kangaroo of courts during the height of her first run in WWE. The details are sketchy, but Paul London once stated that her case took place at 3am in a hotel room and was almost singularly designed to bring Melina to tears. Many wrestlers even took bets on how long it would take before she began to cry.

What sort of backwards toxic nonsense is that? Melina's noted lack of professionalism backstage was clearly problematic, but addressing it through subjugation and brow-beating displays a caveman mentality that should, you know, have died with the cavemen. There may have been ample reason for the idea of wrestler's court to be established in those early days, but subjecting a young woman to a torrent of verbal abuse wasn't it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
