10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Rusev

3. Rusev Day

Clash of Champions 2017 was the night WWE should have pulled the trigger on Rusev Day.

Rusev and Aiden English's popularity was peaking. Their act was one of the most over in the company, with "Rusev Day" chants filling arenas and t-shirts flying off the shelves. One could have argued (with supporting evidence) that nobody was more popular at the time and a normal, logical promoter would have capitalised on this, strapping the duo with the SmackDown Tag Team Championships at the opportune moment.

Not WWE, though. WWE instead had The Usos prosper. They never truly pounced on an act that stayed over for a long, long time until it was entirely too late, then split Rusev Day through the egregiously bad "One Night in Milwaukee" angle and a feud that failed to ignite. Months later, English wasn't even wrestling anymore and his big pal was left drifting for the rest of his WWE tenure.

It's hard to imagine that WWE would ever want to be reminded of the times they left money in the table. This is one of those: they struck while the iron was colder than a polar bear's nipple.
