10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Shane McMahon

1. He Left WWE Because Vince McMahon Didn't Promote Him

From 2003 to 2010, this was Shane's job title in WWE was Executive Vice President of WWE Global Media, overseeing international TV distribution, live event bookings, digital media, consumer products and publishing. In other words, he was a pretty big deal with a lot of responsibility. With his mother Linda stepping away from WWE to begin her political career, she had to step down as WWE's CEO. She announced her intention to run for Connecticut senator in September 2009. The assumption at the time was that Shane (who was 40 years old with 20 years of experience in WWE) would be named the CEO of the company as a way to keep it in the family and because it would groom him for the future. Instead of naming Shane as the CEO, Vince named himself the CEO (as well as the title of Chairman that he already had), while poor Shane was left in the same spot he was before. Since there was no change in his career, Shane probably felt like there was nothing he could do to become more important in WWE. On October 16, 2009, Shane resigned from WWE and was out of the company for good on January 1, 2010. Since leaving, Shane has had nothing to do with WWE. Sure, he has stock options and millions of dollars from being a part of the company, but he hasn't been on television. At the time of his resignation, it was a shock that stunned everybody. Years later, it's still pretty surprising. What would have happened if Shane was named CEO of WWE like he probably wanted? He'd probably still be there, but when it didn't take place he likely felt like there was no way for him to really make a difference and that's why he left. Now Stephanie and Triple H are in key spots. You think Shane would want to come back to answer to his younger sister? It doesn't seem likely. Would WWE ever say that's why he left? Of course not. They would just say he moved on, but they don't want to get into the reasons as to why. When you factor in everything, I can't say I blame the guy either.
