4. The Great Khali Becomes World Heavyweight Champion
It seems slightly strange to think of The Great Khali as anything other than the comedy babyface he plays today, especially given his lacklustre in-ring ability, but he actually spent his first few years with the company as a dominant monster heel. Although clearly not the best wrestler in history, he was entirely believable as a dangerous villain, standing easily over seven foot tall and dwarfing such giants as Kane and Undertaker. However, the SmackDown booking team pushed Khali to a ridiculous degree when he was made World Heavyweight Champion in the summer of 2007. Khali was scheduled to face Edge for the title at The Great American Bash, but the champ was forced to drop the belt due to injury. Although admittedly faced with a depleted roster, the creative staff could surely have found a preferable alternative to the Punjabi giant. The SmackDown battle royal in which he won the belt featured plenty of viable champions, including Angle, Batista and Kane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQpXNj-imGc Nevertheless, Khali was bafflingly given the chance to run with the title. His reign lasted a disastrous two months, including a string of horrible PPV matches, until he mercifully lost to Batista at Unforgiven.
