10 Things You Didn't Know About Ronda Rousey
5. She Previously Fought At 145lbs
The talk of women's MMA, pretty much since the point Ronda Rousey beat Miesha Tate for the Strikeforce bantamweight title, has been a superfight between the bantamweight queen and Cris "Cyborg" Justino. It's a fight that hardcore MMA fans have been salivating over for years.
Cyborg is possibly the scariest female fighter in history. As good as Ronda Rousey is, many would pick the power of Cyborg over the judo throws and arm-bars of Rousey.
So what's the hold up, wouldn't this draw like hotcakes? Well, the sticking point is weight. Rousey refuses to leave the bantamweight division, and Cyborg goes through a grueling weight cut to make 140lb catchweight fights in the UFC currently. Making the 135lb limit would potentially risk her health.
"Rowdy" has tossed out a number of reasons for not budging on the weight issue, including the fact that Cyborg once failed a drug test, but what many may not know or simply forget is that Rousey used to compete at 145lbs. In fact, her first four fights came at 145lbs or above, with the highest weight she competed at being 150lbs. The reason? Not enough quality smaller fighters to fight at the time, and a number of short notice opponents.
Still, Rousey did fight at Cyborg's weight, she simply refuses to go back.
