10 Things You Didn’t Know About Bullet Club
8. Tributes & Lawsuits
New World Order comparisons have followed Bullet Club around since their inception, and it only takes one look to understand why. From their black and white aesthetic to the gang-like mentality and constant run-ins, Bullet Club aren’t shy of hiding their influences. The group have even gone so far as to adopt the nWo’s signature “Too Sweet” hand gesture, and aside from WCW’s trademark power stable, Bullet Club also draws influence from D-Generation X’s vulgarity.
While this mimicry has led to some detractors calling them a tribute act, Bullet Club have earned significant praise from the originators. Kevin Nash has spoken highly of the group in the past, referring to them as a more athletic version of the nWo, and informally passed the torch to the group at a Global Force Wrestling show in 2015. Jeff Jarrett, meanwhile, has previously said that in-ring ability is the only major difference between the two, and Bullet Club are “off the charts, bell-to-bell more talented.”
It’s not all positive, however. BC’s aping of classic American wrestling stables almost got them in legal trouble back in March 2015, when WWE filed a trademark application on “Too Sweet.” They abandoned the application shortly after, but it was hard to argue with The Young Bucks' assertion that WWE only did this to curb Bullet Club’s rapidly escalating popularity.
