10 Things You Didn’t Know About Mickie James
2. Her Association With Toronto
Okay, so as great as Mickie James has been over the years, we’ve established that she’ll hardly be coming into the company on a “hot streak” with just two PPV wins in five years to her name. So maybe the reason for bringing her back into the fold at NXT Takeover: Toronto is that she has some kind of sentimental association with the city?
Guess again, if her WWE record’s anything to go by.
Sure, Mickie’s two for one in televised appearances in Toronto, but the two matches she won were hardly the kind that would make her a major star in the area. Admittedly the first was fairly impressive—a Lumberjill match with Beth Phoenix for the Women’s Championship on Raw—but the second was a four-minute tag team bout pitting Mickie and Melina against Jillian Hall and Layla.
It may seem like something of a minor detail, but my point is that Mickie’s history with Toronto (or rather, her relative lack thereof) only makes the recent announcement regarding the next NXT Takeover all the more surprising—which, I suppose, in some ways is a good thing.
