10 Things You Didn't Know About Bam Bam Bigelow

4. Vince McMahon Knew Bigelow Could Work Miracles At 'Mania XI

To a lot of fans, Bam Bam Bigelow may have seemed a strange choice to headline WrestleMania XI opposite American Football star Lawrence Taylor, and it was quite the risk from the WWF to position the match as the headline bout. Following a classic title match between Shawn Michaels and Diesel could have spelled disaster for the collision, but it was Vince McMahon, the promotion's head honcho, who had full faith in Bam Bam to pull it off. In many ways, WrestleMania XI was Bigelow's finest performance, and made up for the man's disappointment of only facing Doink The Clown in a comedic mixed tag-team match the previous year. Thankfully, Taylor came prepared to rock the house, and Bigelow remarked in interviews after that the athlete was surprisingly good for a non-wrestler. Putting the celebrity over would not have been an easy pill to swallow, but Bam Bam proved his professionalism, and dedication to the company cause, doing exactly what McMahon asked. The quality of the Wrestler vs. Football Star encounter should not be under-mined, Bigelow was - fittingly - on fire here. Originally, the match was scheduled to take place earlier in the show, but Vince knew Bam Bam could come up trumps for him, and close the show out nicely. How right he was!
