When thinking about ECW, it's hard not to think about Terry Funk. The 'middle aged and crazy' veteran landed in Philadelphia in 1994 when the promotion was still known as Eastern Championship Wrestling. Funk had pledged to help the ailing league by attaching his name to it. Funk was completely selfless, putting his body and reputation on the line in order to get the promotion over. Even in his 50s, Funk was more than willing to perform a moonsault off of a ladder or let his opponent crack him in the skull with a flaming chair shot.

WWE and Paul Heyman naturally wanted Funk for their ECW reunion show but Funk said 'no', opting instead to work for Shane Douglas' independent Hardcore Homecoming show the night before. Funk's reasoning was that Douglas' version was the more 'pure' of the shows and that he didn't want Vince making money off of ECW's name.

Funk took a hefty pay cut (about a third) to do Douglas' show instead of WWE's. 'Ol Terry must have had a change of heart a year later, since he did work the 2006 version of the event.
