10 Things You Didn't Know About Goldberg
4. He Was Supposed To Wrestle At A New Japan Tokyo Dome Show
Though this past January saw New Japan Pro Wrestling hold its 11th Wrestle Kingdom show, the company has been running Tokyo Dome events on January 4 since 1992. Throughout the 1990s, these shows featured appearances from WCW stars as a result of the talent exchange between the two companies.
The 4 January 2000 edition of the show - titled Wrestling World 2000 - was an example of that cooperation. On the card, Rick Steiner defeated Randy Savage and Hiroyoshi Tenzan beat Chris Benoit (who was wrestling under his Wild Pegasus persona).
They weren't the only ones who were supposed to be there, though. Goldberg was scheduled to make his Japan debut at Wrestling World 2000, taking on future IWGP Heavyweight Champion Manabu Nakanishi. Unfortunately, at the end of the previous year, Goldberg suffered a serious arm injury, severing a tendon when he punched a limousine window as part of an angle. He would eventually compete in Japan after WCW went out of business, but he'd never wrestle for NJPW.
