While the first image conjured up when thinking of Pat Patterson is of him parading around the Attitude Era as one of Vince McMahon's stooges, Patterson had by that point in time been officially retired from the ring for well over a decade.

Formally, Pat hung up his boots back in 1984. Having debuted in 1958, that gave the French-Canadian an impressive 26-year career full of so many memorable moments and matches.

By this point in time, Patterson had already spent several years as a semi-regular colour commentator on WWF Championship Wrestling - usually alongside Vince McMahon or Gorilla Monsoon - and this meant he was a part of several utterly iconic moments.

During his time at the announce table, Patterson got to commentate on some truly huge moments in wrestling history. The Iron Sheik defeating Bob Backlund to become World Champion? Pat Patterson was on the call. Hulk Hogan defeating the Iron Sheik for that same title? Pat Patterson was on the call. Jimmy Snuka jumping from the top of a cage onto Don Muraco? Pat Patterson was on the call.

As the '80s rolled on, it was then that Pat started to work alongside Vince backstage.
