WCW and the NWA had a splintered, fractious relationship in 1993. Towards the end of the year, it looked like WCW was going to completely move away from the National Wrestling Alliance, despite there being NWA World Title bouts under the WCW banner.

At one point, there was more than one World Title in the promotion. The WCW World Title formed in 1991 and the original NWA World Title. Upon leaving the NWA, WCW began promoting the 'Big Gold Belt', which it dubbed the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship.

If this is confusing, it's because it most definitely was a baffling situation.

The WCW International and WCW World Title were separate, but would be united in 1994. As things stood in '93, however, it wasn't uncommon for both to be defended.

It was this kind of nonsense that fans didn't really care for, and the idea of having more than one 'World Champion' in a single promotion didn't make much sense.

In order to explain the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship, management created a fictional 'International Committee' (acting as the real NWA previously had) to explain the situation on television.

The whole thing was a complete mess.
