10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 1990

1. Mike Tyson Was Supposed To Be In The WWF In 1990

Everybody knows how Mike Tyson's involvement in Wrestlemania 14 in 1998 helped turn the tide in the WWF's favor during the Monday Night Wars, and kicked the Attitude Era into another gear. It was Tyson's first appearance in the WWF, so it was a really huge deal. But did you know that Tyson was scheduled to appear in the WWF eight years earlier? Tyson, the Heavyweight Champion of boxing at the time, was booked to be the guest referee for the Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage WWF Championship match at The Main Event in February 1990. There was even a press conference announcing Tyson as the referee in January. Then a funny thing happened in Tokyo Japan on February. Tyson was upset by Buster Douglas, and lost the Heavyweight Championship. Much like Ronda Rousey when she lost to Holly Holm, Tyson pulled himself from all public appearances, and that included the guest referee spot. WWF quickly responded and made Douglas the guest referee. It's interesting to think what would have happened if Tyson beat Douglas like he was supposed to. He would have already appeared on WWF television in 1990, which would mean his 1998 appearance at Wrestlemania 14 wouldn't mean as much. WWF may have won the Monday Night Wars with or without Tyson's help, but it's fun to think about what might have been. Thoughts on this list? Comment below or follow me on Twitter @PocketSeagull.
