8. John Cena FAILED To Defy Science

One of several key talents that were missing for WrestleMania 32 due to injury, John Cena tweeted as late as February that he hoped to make it back to full fitness in time to do something significant at 'The Show Of Shows'.

As he put it at the time following an appearance at the Daytona 500, he said:

Alright #DAYTONA500 fun is over. Back to work. Putting in 12 hours a day for the past 6 weeks to try and defy science. It's make or break

Based on his legendary Royal Rumble 2008 comeback, plenty assumed that he'd actually f*cking manage it. 'The Champ's superhuman recovery rate had been highlighted elsewhere aside from this iconic comeback, and over a decade of pro-WWE rhetoric from Cena made it seem as though missing WrestleMania simply wasn't an option.

It was neither one nor the other on the night. He donned the attire and got involved physically, but only to help The Rock banter off and bury The Wyatt Family in a protracted comedy bit. Madison Square Garden exploding, this wasn't.
