Few wrestling debates are more tedious than the one surrounding Roman Reigns' alignment. As beloved by younger fans as he is despised by their elders, Reigns has inherited John Cena's mantle as wrestling's most divisive character in recent years, but just like his predecessor, Roman's push is accomplishing everything WWE want from it.

Reigns is WWE's top full-time merchandise seller. At a time when the company are raking in more money on t-shirts, hats, and other tat than ever before, this is huge. He also continually draws the loudest crowd reaction on any show he appears on, and while some may see the jeers as a problem, WWE clearly don't.

WWE have succeeding in replicating John Cena's push with Reigns. Yes, the way he's booked can be obnoxious, but they've followed the Cena blueprint almost to a tee, and they never once looked like turning 'The Face That Runs The Place' heel. To think they'll pull the trigger with Roman is fanciful, and there aren't many valid reasons to do it at this point. 'The Guy' definitely isn't for everyone, but he is a huge, money-making commodity when it comes to younger fans, so why would WWE choose to jeopardise that?
