10 Things You Learn From Boycotting WWE For One Year
6. The Network Is Still A Good Deal (But I Still Don't Want It)
The network was obviously a bit of a boondoggle when it first started, but in fairness to WWE that was always going to be expected. A lot of critics thought it was going to be the end of WWE and that Vince had made a significant blunder and was giving away the family fortune. That was never going to be the case though. As much as they may have lost in the short term, the network was always going to be a game changer, and indicated that as bizarre as his wrestling mind may be at times, Vince understood how technology was changing. As the very nature of how people watch TV changes WWE has got their foot in the door early and congratulations to them for doing so. It will serve them well. But surprisingly, the network still kind of sucks. Or at least it kind of sucks in comparison to the other options available out there that WWE explicitly stated they wanted to compete with. For what you pay on the network you can get a whole lot of better subscription services with far more content that are infinitely more entertaining. I signed back up after cancelling it earlier in the year just to see if my $9.99 would be well spent. I didnt know what to expect, but I know Ill be cancelling until WrestleMania again. Why? Well, the original content is still either WWE revisionist history, or television that you need a lobotomy to enjoy. And as fun as old wrestling PPVs are, this is also the golden age of television. Id rather watch Jessica Jones with my precious spare hours, than a match between DX and the Nation of Domination that I saw nearly two decades ago. And unless WWE has really picked up their game on the PPVs outside of WrestleMania (which I doubt) then the idea of watching all of them makes my head spin. All this time later the network is still a bit of a mystery in terms of what it actually offers other than cheap PPVs. So apologies WWE Ill take something else please.
