10 Things You Learn From Watching 1993 On The WWE Network

4. Only Bret Hart's Matches Were Any Good At King Of The Ring

Even though he was shunted from the WWF Heavyweight Title picture to make room for Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart went about his business in workmanlike fashion over the Summer of 1993. The King Of The Ring concept had been running in the promotion since 1985, but '93 would mark the first year during which the idea was used on pay-per-view.

Almost to placate Hart for Hulk Hogan's return and subsequent title defence against Yokozuna, Bret was booked to win the tournament. In the process, he had perhaps the finest night of wrestling in his entire career, beating Razor Ramon, Mr. Perfect and Bam Bam Bigelow in three distinctly different matches.

Re-watching the event, it becomes clear that Hart's bouts were the only good ones on the show. Hogan and Yoko ambled awkwardly through a dated title match, whereas every King Of The Ring encounter not featuring Bret failed to hit the mark.

Even the dependable Shawn Michaels couldn't draw anything worthwhile from Crush in their WWF Intercontinental Title tussle. The 1993 King Of The Ring is only worth revisiting for Hart's trio of stunners.
