Much has been made about The Kliq ruling the roost in the WWF of the mid-1990's. Whilst Diesel, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon and The 1-2-3 Kid definitely had some sway, even they couldn't prevent Vince McMahon's grand plans for 1995. Those schemes included crowning Mabel as the King Of The Ring and pushing the bumbling big man as a bonafide headliner.

It's long been said that McMahon is fascinated by promoting huge men as star attractions. One need only look at the sustained presence of Diesel as WWF Champion from November, 1994 until November, 1995 as evidence of this. In 1995, Mabel was McMahon's next attempt at presenting size as guaranteed box office gold.

For SummerSlam, the WWF scheduled a 'King' Mabel crack at Diesel and the WWF Heavyweight Title. It's hard to imagine Diesel being thrilled at such news, knowing he had no choice but to go along with what management wanted.

Mabel's monster push did slow after SummerSlam, although McMahon wasn't done yet. Towards the end of the year, he was booked opposite The Undertaker in another high-profile feud. Not once did Mabel's performances merit this kind of top line run.
