10 Times CM Punk Disrespected WWE

8. Don't Watch Wrestling, Watch Hockey

In case you weren’t aware, CM Punk is a big, big, big hockey fan. The Chicago native is a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan and is frequently seen at home games, getting vocally involved and fully embracing one of the greatest sports on the planet. Hockey is one of the great sports, especially for neutrals, an immensely fast and dynamic one that doesn’t require a PhD to ‘get’.

Everyone should be watching hockey, but it probably isn’t the best idea to encourage people to watch hockey over the company you work for. RAW’s ratings were in the toilet during the summer of 2013 (when were the ratings not in the toilet?), and many within the company attributed some blame to Punk and his vociferous hockey-related tweeting, all but encouraging his fans to watch the action on the rink instead of the squared circle.

Was Punk to blame for the poor ratings? Of course not. The dwindling returns of WWE creative should always take the lion’s share of the blame for that. Was Punk tweeting about hockey instead of wrestling disrespectful? Not entirely, but come on, have a little tact. Don’t talk up a big competitor while your own company is struggling, that seems fairly obvious.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
