10 Times Controversy Inspired WWE Changes
2. Saudi Shows Force WWE Into Producing The Evolution PPV
Not for the first time on this list, the Saudi mega shows are inadvertently responsible for one of the greatest moments in recent WWE history.
When it was originally announced that WWE would be going into business with the Saudi General Sports Authority, many fans were annoyed at the thought of the company being in cahoots with a place where women were not permitted to appear wrestling in a ring.
To combat this backlash, the next Saudi event - by the name of Crown Jewel - in November 2018 was preceded by WWE's first all women's PPV, Evolution. Fan's got off McMahon's back for a few months and the PPV itself was absolutely marvellous, standing as one of the best that the year had to offer.
It was unfortunate that WWE's incredible women's division only found themselves with this substantial platform as a way of pacifying the negative publicity that was surrounding their new found partnership with the controversial organisation. Yet the image of Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch fronting a hoard of talented women in front of a raucous crowd, was a silver-lining that we didn't realise was possible.
